Tulum Ruins on Exotic Mexican Beaches

Tulum Ruins on Exotic Mexican Beaches is a small site in the Mayan Riviera Mexico is located near Cancun and Playa del Carmen in the Yucatan Peninsula on the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico,

It has a beautiful white sand beach and it is easily reached by bus or with an organized tour.

It is ideal for a Half day Tour while staying in any of the Mayan Riviera Resorts.

The Mexican Beaches near the site are spectacular

Coming from the sea, you may see an impressive tall building. This is “El Castillo”.

The archaeological site is small compared with other Mayan Ruins and is one of the best kept Coastal Maya sites.

It’s proximity to the famous resort town of Cancun (about 120 Km.), makes it the third most visited of the Mayan Ruins, after Teotihuacan in Mexico City and Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula.

It has been determined that Tulum was occupied since 1200 AD until the contact with the Spaniards in early 16th Century.

By late the same century it was totally abandoned.

Today it has been restored for tourism purposes.

After a visit to the ruins you may want to visit the great park of Xel Ha or spend some time on Xcaret Park.

This is a great opportunity to cool off.

Another great place to relax is the beach and idyllic place to swim right under the majestic Castillo.

When you reach the ruins, just past the main entrance is the “Temple of the Frescoes”.

The walls are painted with frescoes honoring the “Divine God” descending from Heaven to receive the offerings from men.

North of El Castillo is the “Temple of Winds”

Tulum Ruins may get very busy during the day. So, I recommend visiting early in the morning before all the cruise and land tours arrive around 10:00 AM.

As of this writing the entrance is free on Sundays and cost $4.00 during the rest of the week.

Once in Yucatan, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Tulum Ruins. We visited them when cruising with Carnival Cruises. We docked in Cozumel Mexico and took one of the ship’s shore excursions. We loved it.
