Great Things to do in Barbados

There are great things to do in Barbados besides lying on the beach. Although there is nothing wrong with lying on the beach…

Barbados nicknamed the “Gem of the Caribbean Sea” offers much more than exotic beaches, warm weather and crystal clear waters.

Some visitors come to Barbados for a week, a weekend or just for the day on Caribbean Cruise Vacations.

Upon arrival to Bridgetown Barbados, there are plenty activities.

I will enumerate a few of them based on my experience selling cruises for so many years, and my personal visits to Barbados.

Tours with 4X4

• Visit the Green Monkey - Using this vehicle provided by tour and rental companies you may visit the interior of Barbados and meet the Bajan Green Monkey while you experience the beauty of Barbados Island as you walk along the paths of this reserve.

• Drive through the areas that are normally inaccessible. Past Bathsheba while enjoying the view of miles of beaches, then reach Paradise island Retreat for relaxing, swimming or plain sunbathing.

• Board a powerboat for a ride along the coast to one of the secluded coves for a swim, while enjoying the fish and other marine life.

Back on land you board a 4X4 vehicle and discover the beauty of Barbados while you drive through cane fields and witness the Atlantic littoral, with its constant high waves pounding against the coast.

A few more things to do in Barbados

Sightseeing

• Tour the island on a tour or by yourself. Important places to visit are:

• The Rum Distillery to learn how rum has been processed by locals for more than 350 years.

• The 300 year old Sunbury Plantation House, with a tour of the home with antique furniture, prints and carriage collection.

• Mahogany Creations where you can see the island’s only carving factory. Maybe purchase one of the original wood sculptures by Reggie Medford himself.

Beach Breaks

• It is important to do sightseeing, but it’s delicious to just seat on the beach, with Piña Colada on one hand and a book on the other.
