It is the largest of the three islands, larger than its sisters Utila, the smallest and Guanaja also the highest. The big island is the most populated and busy of the three, with its capital at Coxen Hole.

Fluent in English due to their British Heritage The Bay Islands have their own identity within the nation of Honduras. The islands were occupied mostly by the British and its Afro Antillean population speaks English fluently and some don’t even speak Spanish, the official language of Honduras. They are called by many travel magazines as the Caribbean “Best Kept Secret”, because of its beaches. The islands are not as tourist oriented as many Caribbean Islands.
