El Yunque Rainforest is one of the most important Puerto Rico Places
Some Important Puerto Rico Places El Yunque Rainforest The official name is the Caribbean National Forest, is also called El Yunque Rain forest, has the highest visitation of any natural site in Puerto Rico. When you see it, you'll easily understand why. El Yunque is the only rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System. Comprised of some 240 different species of trees, it is actually a series of forests, each one determined by its altitude. El Toro, the highest peak in the forest at 3,532 feet, has only odd dwarf vegetation clinging to its sides. More than 100 billion gallons of precipitation fall each year, creating the jungle-like ambiance of lush foliage, sparkling leaves, shining wet rocks, and shadowy paths occasionally pierced by sunlight. El Yunque rain forest is visited by all Puerto Rico touri The Bacardi Rum Distillery This is the largest in the world and is one of the most popular Puerto Rico Places for tourists. It is located only 15 minutes away from San Juan. Here you’ll see everything from the vast fermentation vats to the high speed bottling machinery is at work and on display. A trolley takes you to the Bacardi family museum, where a history of the product and landmarks in its development are seen. Here you can sample the world-famous rum and buy souvenirs or a variety of Bacardi products at the gift shop. Hacienda Buena Vista In 1833 a Spaniard who emigrated from Venezuela to Puerto Rico purchased a large parcel of fertile land in the hills north of Ponce. He built a lovely two story main house, slave quarters, farm buildings and processing areas. The hacienda soon became a major producer of coffee, corn and other products. His son and grandson introduced some of the most innovative farm machinery on the island, powered by a nearby 100 foot waterfall. A series of hurricanes and the failing coffee market brought operations to a standstill by 1900, and gradually Hacienda Buena Vista fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Puerto Rico Places Luquillo Beach For generations families have made the trek from San Juan and all over the eastern region for a day at Luquillo Beach. It is one of the most important Puerto Rico Attractions. When the children were small and we lived in Guaynabo we used to take them to Luquillo for a full day at the beach. A vacation in Puerto Rico was considered incomplete without a visit to this well-loved place on the coast. The view from the beach is spectacular: a long gold crescent of sand lined by countless coconut palms, with the misty mountains of the rainforest towering in the distance. Toro Negro State Forest and Lookout Tower in Jayuya This fantastic natural forest is unique from others with impressive panoramic views, waterfalls, small creeks, a man-made fresh water lake, and migratory birds to watch. The park is managed by the State's Natural Resources Department. Toro Negro has several hiking trails for walking with proper shoes. Some snack food and refreshments purveyors area available in its surroundings. At Toro Negro Forest will be able to hike the two tallest peaks of Puerto Rico: Cerro Punta and Cerro La Rosa. El Morro San Juan El Morro, officially known as Fuerte San Felipe del Morro, sits atop a high promontory overlooking the entrance to San Juan Bay.This fort is probably the # 1 of Puerto Rico Attractions. It is the result of the efforts of many different Spanish engineers over a period of more than 200 years and is one of the largest forts built by the Spaniards in the Caribbean. Although the foundations were laid in 1539, the six-level fort was not considered completed until 1787. During World War II, the US government added an annex of its own design on top of the fort. San Cristobal Fort Fort San Cristobal stands guard at where once was the eastern gate to the walled city of Old San Juan. Construction on the fort was begun in 1634 and finished in 1790, although modifications were made well into the 18th Century. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Site under the US National Park Service. Culebrita The tiny island of Culebra Puerto Rico off the eastern coast of the island, has a smaller sister, called Culebrita. It is isolated and you have get there on a boat from larger Culebra. Playa Tortuga or in English Turtle beach is the island’s crown jewel.

Located on the northwestern tip of the island is Punta Borinquen Golf Course, located in the former Ramey Air Force Base. This world class golf course is one of the best maintained and breeziest on the island. The course fees are relatively inexpensive, which makes playing the Punta Borinquen Golf Course very accessible. Caja de Muerto Beach This uninhabited island off the south coast of Puerto Rico, has little to cause destruction to the abundance of natural beauty which has become the islands main attraction. The weather is dry and it rarely rains, so it can normally be visited the whole year around. Guanica Punta Ballena Reserve is perfect for bird watching. UNESCO declared it a Biosphere Reserve because of its outstanding representation of this ecosystem. It has a very nice path that leads right to the beachfront. Yaguez Theater Located in Mayaguez, this historic landmark first opened its doors in the early 1900s. This theater has an Art Deco style that is based on the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. It is known to be the best place in the city to see a concert or a play. Museo de Arte de Ponce Of all Puerto Rico places, this one is a must for art lovers. Located in the city bearing its name, is a historical museum that is housed in Casa Salazar, which is an exquisite blend of neoclassical and Moorish architecture and is well worth a visit. It is a must of Puerto Rico Attractions. It is a good example of the old Puerto Rican and Spanish architecture, which dates back to thousands of years.

La Fortaleza is the official mansion of the Governor of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico Places La Fortaleza Located in Old San Juan, is the home of the governor of Puerto Rico is the oldest existing executive mansion, not only in Puerto Rico, but in the Western Hemisphere. For over 300 years this beautiful residence has been the home of the Puerto Rican government. Clearly La Fortaleza oozes warmth and history and is definitely worth a visit. Some of the original architecture remains although for the most part, it has been extended into a breathtaking palace. Visitors should dress smart casual to see this attraction. Remember, I mentioned that I lived in Puerto Rico for 28 years. The Island of Enchantment is my second homeland and I love it dearly. I mentioned just a few Puerto Rico Places. There are much more. A week or two won’t be enough to see it all. But please come to Puerto Rico and then come back again and again.
