It is the fourth in size of the Great Antilles named Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Besides the spectacular beaches, surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling, Puerto Rico is a cosmopolitan island with very active cities and towns. Here I will mention some of the most important Puerto Rico attractions that have made Puerto Rico one of the most visited islands in the Caribbean, attracting millions of tourists annually. The first and greatest of Puerto Rico attraction is that while on the island, you are in the United States. When you flew to San Juan or Aguadilla you didn’t need a passport or visa if you are an American Citizens. For an American tourist is like flying from Miami to New York. The currency is the US Dollar, the US Postal Service delivers to the island and the American Flag flies together with the proud Puerto Rican Flag all over the island. Here are a few of Puerto Rico Attractions Bioluminescent Bays There are two sites on the island where you can see this phenomenon. Phosphorescence is actually bioluminescence generated by bioluminescence generated by microscopic organisms in the water. It is believed to be part of a natural defense system triggered by the movement of predators. Many scientists believe the tiny organisms light up so their predators can see more desirable prey and thus leave them alone. Imagine the blackness of the sea on a moonless night. Now watch it sparkle with the darting lights of a million fireflies. Nature lovers will not want to miss the phenomenal experience of visiting a tropical phosphorescent bay. In Puerto Rico you may see this event every single evening in two places. They are: La Paguera, located between Mayaguez and Ponce in the southwest of the island. The village makes a living of the visitors that constantly come to see this. The other place and even more spectacular is in Mosquito Bay in the little island of Vieques Puerto Rico, off the northeast shore of the main island.
