An undiscovered island It is a fish-hook shaped island 77 Km or 48 miles long by 6.5 Km of 4 miles wide at its widest point. The island is surrounded by uninhabited cays and the beaches feature hidden coves, coral reefs and blue holes for the delights of visitors. Beginners in the field of Scuba Diving Caribbean and Snorkeling will find friendly professionals to help them get started and enjoy the sunken shipwrecks, the coves and the surrounding ocean floor. First Settlers The first settlers on Cat Island Bahamas were the Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution around 1783. The name of the island, although not proved, was given for Arthur Catt, a pirate or some say for the feral cats that once inhabited the island.
