First Settlers
The first settlers on Cat Island Bahamas were the Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution around 1783. The name of the island, although not proved, was given for Arthur Catt, a pirate or some say for the feral cats that once inhabited the island.
Mount Alvernia
This is the highest point of the country of the Bahamas and it is located in Cat Island. You may visit the ruins of the Hermitage Monastery built and hand carved from solid rock by Franciscan "Brother Jerome" alias John Cyril Hawes, who came to the island in the 1930’s.
