The British Territories of the Caribbean, also known as the British West Indies are a group of islands with a strong British heritage. These islands as opposed to others in the archipelago that have gained their independence, these few islands remain an integral part of the United Kingdom
These islands are Anguilla, British Virgin islands and Montserrat in the Leeward Islands. The Cayman Islands on the Western Caribbean; and Turks and caicos located on the Atlantic Ocean, east of Bahamas and north of the Dominican Republic
.
The first settlers of the British Territories were from Scotland, England and Ireland. They came as farmers, retailers and craft people. With time the need for workers grew and people from all stratum of society including felons and other social misfits, started to settle the colonies.

The sugar market became very important at that time and they started to bring black West African that were sadly converted into slaves. When those slaves were liberated the sugar industry almost collapsed and many of the white folks left the islands for good. This altered the society of the British West Indies forever.
Being the British Territories part of the Commonwealth many East Indians, Pakistanis and Chinese immigrated to the islands and today you can see the vast influence of their people into the West Indies society.
After World War II the islands started to prosper by building airports and infrastructure to begin profiting from tourism. The beauty of its beaches and landscape and the quality of their inhabitants which in general are polite, educated and service oriented made these islands a heaven for tourism as they are today.
Being the British Territories under the British Flag, they also became a heaven for investors and the amount of banks on the islands sometimes surpasses that of any big city in the world.

Brief DescriptionsHere is a brief description of the islands. Please browse through the following pages to find lots of information about them on a one by one basis.
Anguilla – The islands was part of the federation of St Kitts and Nevis and Anguilla. When the first two opted for independence within the British Commonwealth, Anguilla decided to stay as part of the British Territories. It was in my opinion a very wise decision. At that time Anguilla was inhabited by about 6,000 people and it was worth staying completely under the British Flag.
Today Anguilla is thriving with tourism due to its beaches of white sand and azure crystal waters that are the delight of any tourist.

Montserrat – Montserrat is a sad story. This volcanic island was almost completely destroyed by the Soufriere Hills Volcano and today the population lives mostly on a corner of the island.
British Virgin Islands – These are a group of islands all belonging to the Virgin Islands archipelago which is divided between the USA owning the US Virgin Islands as a US territory and the British Virgin Island, The most important are Tortola, Virgin Gorda , Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
Cayman Islands – A group of islands south of the Island of Cuba in the Western Caribbean Sea. The islands are called Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Besides its incredibly beautiful Exotic Beaches, the territory is an important financial center in the Caribbean.
Turks and Caicos – The most beautiful beaches in the Planet are located here. The islands are located on the Atlantic Ocean north of the Dominican Republic. They are made of two groups, the larger Caicos Islands and the smaller Turks. The largest of the islands and the center of activity is Grand Turk which is also an important financial center.
The Turks and Caicos are a continuation east of the Bahamas but politically they are totally separated.
