Baby Beach Aruba

by Kimberly
(Aruba Sunsets)

The white sandy beaches of Aruba are on the south-facing side of the island and stretch for many miles from the sand dunes near the California Lighthouse at the North, all the way to the crescent tip of Baby Beach at the South.

We were married on Palm Beach in front of the Marriott High Rise. But, our favorite was Aruba’s Baby Beach. The pictures of the beaches included here were taken during our honeymoon in Aruba.

Baby beach is on the southern tip of Aruba, miles away from the resort and hotel areas-About a 35 minute car ride. But, it is worth the trip.

Baby Beach was established in the 1930’s by and for the workers of the Lago Oil Refinery and their families, many who lived in the adjacent neighborhood. Concrete and rocks were placed underwater around the beach area as wave breakers, which created a quiet sheltered cove.

The water is very shallow and calm enough for babies and young children. (I am told that is how it got it’s name.) The water level for most of the cove is not more than about waist high, but deepens further out. You can see the refinery from the beach, but, for me, that made this beach that much more unique.

Baby Beach is the favorite “local beach” for many of Aruba’s residents. It is a quiet family beach, away from the tourist hustle & bustle, great for swimming and snorkeling.

The best spot to see the fish at Baby Beach is where the barrier wall opens to the ocean and the coral reef. Bring something to feed the fish and they will come right up to you. Some people were using bread crumbs, but the person who was using frozen peas was getting swarmed by tropical fish.

You can rent a cabanas (I call them half tents) to provide some shade. My husband and I, along with 2 of our friends who attended our wedding, rented one for the day when we visited Baby Beach. It was a little crowded when all 4 of us were in it, but, most of the time we were swimming and snorkeling, and only used it when we needed a break from the sun, or while we enjoyed our cold drinks from the snack bar.

When we visited Baby Beach a few years ago, there were no public facilities (only the snack-shack.) But, if you are looking for a wonderfully quiet and relaxing place away from the tourist crowds, and a great place for snorkeling, we recommend BABY BEACH ARUBA.

I would love to share our passion for this unique, beautiful island with you. Visit Aruba Sunsets for more information on romantic Aruba vacations.

Dear Kimberly,

Thanks for sharing your story with my readers. I wish you lots of good things.
